Body Drop
Well, sorry It's been so long since I've posted to the site but, I must say our winter was a
bruiser. It was tough to stay focused on the all the tasks at hand and with a long to-do list
my writing skills hit the skids. Our body finally managed to make it back from paint around
Christmas time 2008 but with a shop full of winter storage and no room to maneuver, the
long awaited body drop was now looking like it was going to have to wait until spring. While
the snow piled up outside the focus turned to finishing up the chassis and picking away at
some polishing that had been left for a rainy day. We also spent a bunch of time getting the
motor & trans fitted back between the rails. A custom aluminum drive shaft was mounted
and the trans cooler was plumbed. The rest of the exhaust was hung, the shifter & linkage
was mounted and the frame webbing was fitted. An engine ground strap was built and our
fire wall was mounted. The engine's fuel and water systems were plumbed, the trans
dipstick was mounted, then the trans was filled with fluid. Once the chassis was completed
and put undercover, our focus went towards the body, we started by hanging the deck lid,
then the fuel cell was installed.   I must admit it was impossible to walk by the body without
wondering what it would look like with some of the smaller details installed so one by one
parts found their way out of storage as the impatience built. With better weather now right
around the corner, all the hard to get areas got a good coat of wax while we patiently
waited for a good weekend to join the two halves. Memorial day weekend is usually a time
when everyone's toys come out of hiding and get ready for some summer fun. With a good
3 day stretch of weather ahead of us, it proved to be the perfect weekend to chase the long
awaited body drop. So this post is the memorial to our body drop, a very exciting time when
both halves were finally reunited and my stress could settle back into satisfaction as the
project came gleaming back to life.
